Death of youth investigated after jumping off a bluff at Kuttawa Beach

(Mayfield, Kentucky) - The Kentucky State Police, Post 1 Mayfield, is investigating the death of a 12 year-old Webster County youth. At approximately 4:35 PM Monday afternoon, Kentucky State Police received numerous 911 calls from the Kuttawa Recreational Center in reference to a 12 year-old male that jumped off of the bluff at Kuttawa Beach and never came back up to surface. When the calls came in to the Kentucky State Police 911 Center, it was believed the juvenile had been under water for approximately 8 minutes. The Lyon County Rescue Squad, Kuttawa Fire Department, Kentucky State Police, and Lyon County Sheriffs Department were all immediately dispatched to the scene. The Pennyrile Dive Team also responded to assist with the search. Several divers, equipped with scuba gear, immediately entered the water in an attempt to locate the juvenile. After approximately 3.5 hours of searching, the dive team located 12 year-old Patrick McCallister of Webster County, submerged in the lake. The investigation is continuing by Kentucky State Police Detective Michelle Kent.
