KSP Arrest Four Brother's for Growing Marijuana

Kentucky State Police along with the McLean County Sheriff's Department arrest four brothers from Barbourville for Cultivating Marijuana. At 9:30 am, four subjects entered one of two marijuana patches being grown near Beech Grove in McLean County. Three of the suspects were arrested at the scene while the other fled in his vehicle back to a motel in Madisonville Kentucky.
- Donnie R. Smith age 44 of Barbourville, KY
- Jerry Lee Smith age 54 of Barbourville, KY
- Clifford Smith age 50 of Corbin, KY.
- Ellis Smith Jr. age 47 of Barbourville, KY
A total of 500 marijuana plants were eradicated from two patches with a street value of $100,000 dollars.
The information leading to today's arrest came from the McLean County Sheriff Frank Cox. Cox had received information about two months ago that someone had been seen in this rural area 5 miles east of Beech Grove. The area was flown by KSP helicopter, which located the marijuana. KSP officers went into the area before daylight waiting for the suspects. The four entered the patch around 9:20 and were arrested a short time later. All four are charged with Cultivating Marijuana, which is a class D felony, and trafficking in Marijuana over 5 pounds which is a class C felony. A class D felony is 1-5 years and a class C felony is 5-10 years in jail upon conviction.
