KSP Stats from the Little Sturgis Rally
Date of News Release: 7/22/2004
(Henderson, KY) - The Kentucky State Police advise the rally was quite compared to the pass few years. The arrests for driving under the influence were down with 22 D.U. I. Arrest made over the weekend compared to 49 last year. There were 109 citations issued, 8 criminal arrest, 3 drug related arrest, 8 arrested for public intoxication and 2,805 vehicles inspected.
It appears that people are getting the message that we will be out in force and driving under the influence among other violation will be enforced during the rally. With the increase in attendance we felt this was a great improvement to the enforcement stats. We investigated a fatal crash involving a motorist that was struck be a pickup near the rally. It appears that traffic was backed up for those going into the rally and this issue may need to be addressed. We feel that the rally has done a good job in clearing the roadway as soon as possible, but some improvement is needed as far as congestion on the roadway is concerned. We had over forty troopers working this year and felt that with the increase in people attending we will look to increase our efforts for further events such as next year's rally.
