Death Investigation Clay County

Date of News Release: 9/3/2004

(LONDON, KY) -On Thursday, September 2, 2004 at approximately 4:30 a.m. members of the Bright Shade Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire on Burley Hollow Road in Clay County. At approximately 8:30 p.m. while sifting through debris of what was to have been an unoccupied structure, suspected human remains were found inside.

Kentucky State Police Detective John Yates and Kentucky State Police Fire Investigator Henry Nunn responded to the scene to assist Troopers Nick Metcalf, Chuck Johnson, Clay County Sheriff Department and Members of the Bright Shade Volunteer Fire Department in the investigation.

Clay County Coroner Jim Trosper pronounced the victim dead at the scene. However the identity of the victim and the cause of death is pending autopsy results. Foul play is not suspected at this time.

The investigation is continuing.
