Arrest in Assault Investigation in Laurel County

(LONDON, KY) - On Monday, August 9, 2004 at approximately 6:00 p.m. Deffery D. Bennett age 39 of Slate Lick Road in Laurel County was arrested and charged with the assault of his 3 month old infant daughter which occurred on Sunday, August 8, 2004. The child remains in serious condition at the UK Medical Center in Lexington.

The Laurel County Department of Social Service has placed the remaining children at the residence in protective custody.

Deffery D. Bennett was lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center in London charged with Assault 1st degree.

Kentucky State Police Detective Gary Lane is continuing the investigation and was assisted in the arrest by the Laurel County Sheriff Department.
