Murder Investigation in Wayne County

(MONTICELLO, KY) - On Sunday, May 16, 2004 at approximately 11: 30 a.m. the Wayne County Sheriff Department responded to the report of a possible murder on Cooper Drive off KY 167 in Wayne County. Upon arrival Deputies discovered a male subject deceased with multiple injuries and a second male severely injured at the residence.

Kentucky State Police Detectives Todd Dalton and Billy Correll responded to the scene to assist in the investigation. The Wayne County Coroners Office pronounced William E. Wells Sr. age 92 dead at the scene. An autopsy will be preformed to determine the exact cause and time of death. His son William E. Wells Jr. age 64 was transported to the Wayne County Hospital in Monticello listed in serious condition. He was later transported to the UK Medical Center in Lexington where he remains in serious condition.

Kentucky State Police Detective Todd Dalton is conducting the investigation and was assisted at the scene by Detective Billy Correll and Sheriff James Hill and the Wayne County Sheriff Department.
