Shooting Investigation in McCreary County

(LONDON, KY) - On Monday, March 29, 2004 at approximately 5:00 p.m. the McCreary County 911 received the report of a shooting on KY 927 (Day Ridge Road) approximately 7 miles north of Whitley City in McCreary County. Troopers from the Kentucky State Police and McCreary County Sheriff Deputies responded to the location and discovered that a vehicle occupied by Josh Coffey age 19, Frankie Lee Kennedy (female) age 19 and a 15 year old male of Whitley City were injured when there vehicle was shot into by a subject later identified as Edward Yancey age 44 of Whitley City.

According to the investigation Edward Yancey was in a wooded area near his residence when he shot into a vehicle. Josh Coffey and the 15-year old male juvenile were both transported by the McCreary County EMS to the Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset where they were treated and released. Frankie Lee Kennedy was treated at the scene and airlifted to the UT Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee listed in serious condition.

Edward Yancey was arrested at his residence and charged with three counts of Assault 1st degree and lodged in the McCreary County Jail in Whitley City.

Kentucky State Police Detective Billy Correll is conducting the investigation and was assisted at the scene by Sergeant Chris Thompson, Detective Todd Dalton, Trooper Craig Reed, Trooper Jason Browning, Trooper Doug Boyd, Trooper Sean Dixon and the McCreary County Sheriff Department.
