Mother Arrested for Assault in Laurel County

(LONDON, KY) - On Saturday, March 20, 2004 at approximately 12:00 a.m. the Kentucky State Police in Richmond received the report of a 2 year old male which had been brought to the emergency room at the Berea Hospital in Berea, Kentucky. Troopers from the Kentucky State Police from the Richmond Post responded to the hospital at which time it was determined that the child was a victim of abuse, which had occurred in Laurel County.

Detective John Yates from the London Post responded to the hospital and after further investigation arrested Nerissa Brumley age 22 of London. Nerissa Brumley the child's mother has been charged with Assault 1st degree and lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center in London. The child (name being withheld) was treated at the Berea Hospital and later flown to the UK Medical Center in Lexington listed in serious condition.

Detective John Yates was assisted at the scene by Troopers from the Kentucky State Police, Post 7 in Richmond. The investigation is continuing with additional charges and arrests pending further investigation.
