Methamphetamine Lab Discovered in Laurel County
(London, KY) - On Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at approximately 1:00 p.m. Kentucky State Police in London was assisting Knox County Sheriff Department as they were attempting to serve a drug related arrest warrant approximately 7 miles south of London on KY 229 in Laurel County.
Upon arriving at the residence the wanted subject was observed fleeing the residence out the rear door. After a short foot pursuit Rusty Collins age 38 of London was apprehended behind the residence without incident.
Knox County Sheriff John Pickard was returning to his vehicle with the subject when observed an odor coming from a van parked at the residence. Further investigation led to the discovery of a working methamphetamine lab inside the van belonging to the homeowner Amy Smith.
Kentucky State Police Detective Billy Madden arrested Amy Smith age 27 of London charging her with Manufacturing Methamphetamine and lodged her in the Laurel County Detention Center in London.
Additional charges are pending on Amy Smith after discovering her three children all under the age of 10 were residing at the residence. Rusty Collins was lodged in the Knox County Detention Center in Barbourville.
Additional arrests are pending further investigation.
Detective Billy Madden is conducting the investigation into the Methamphetamine Lab and was assisted at the scene by Knox County Sheriff John Pickard, Knox County Sheriff Deputies, Laurel County Sheriff Department, Kentucky State Police Drug Enforcement East, and the Region 11 Haz Mat Team.
