Five Arrested After KSP Discovers Methamphetamine Lab
(London, KY) - On Wednesday, January 28, 2004 at approximately 9:25 a.m. Troopers and Detectives from the Kentucky State Police Post in London were conducting the investigation of a possible methamphetamine lab on KY 490 approximately ½ mile north of East Bernstadt in Laurel County.
As officers approached the residence of Glendon R. Gilbert a strong smell of a chemical odor was present and several occupants in the house began an attempt to flee from the inside. After a short foot pursuit all the subject were caught which led to the search of the house and the discovery of an active methamphetamine lab inside.
Arrested at the scene were: Glendon R. Gilbert age 56 of East Bernstadt, and John Fredrick Stafford age 35 of London were charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine and Persistent Felony Offender 2nd. David Stubblefield age 42 and Rebecca L. Mardis age 32 of London were charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine. Wendy Barlow Walden age 26 of London was charged with Manufacturing Methamphetamine, Persistent Felony Offender 2nd. Wendy Barlow Walden was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for violation of Parole. All five were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center in London.
Trooper Jimmy Phelps is conducting the investigation. Assisting in the investigation were Trooper John Root, Laurel County Sheriff Deputies Detective Johnny Phelps, Brad Mitchell, Brian Reams Region 11 Haz Mat Task Force and Detectives from the Kentucky State Police Drug Enforcement East.
