Kentucky State Police Troopers from Post 5 End
Pursuit Initiated by Oldham County Police - Suspect in Custody

(Campbellsburg,KY) -  Kentucky State Troopers from the Campbellsburg Post took a 19 year old male into custody after ending a pursuit that was initiated in LaGrange, Kentucky by the Oldham County Police.

The suspect allegedly broke into a home in Crestwood, Kentucky and took the homeowner hostage. He forced the homeowner to drive around to ATM's and withdrawal money from the victims account. The victim was able to escape and the Oldham County Police located the vehicle a few minutes later and a pursuit ensued.

The Kentucky State Police Post in Campbellsburg was notified by Oldham County Dispatch that Oldham County Police Officers were in pursuit of a vehicle heading east on KY-146.

Trooper Chris Clark arrived at the intersection of KY-146 and KY-153 were he was deploying his tire deflation device. Upon seeing Trooper Clark the suspect attempted to run over Trooper Clark. Trooper Clark was able to avoid being hit but the suspect vehicle struck Trooper Clark's cruiser.

The suspect vehicle continued on north on KY-153. Trooper John Flechler joined in the pursuit and after the suspect vehicle attempted to ram his cruiser he fired 3 rounds from his service weapon at the suspect vehicles left rear tire in an attempt to end the pursuit. Trooper Flechler was able to get in front of the suspect vehicle were the suspect rammed Trooper Flechler's cruiser.

The suspects vehicle became disabled and a foot pursuit began near the intersection of KY-153 and Le-Sprit Parkway in Pendleton, Kentucky. The suspect ran into a field. Several Troopers pursued him and observed the suspect brandish a knife at them in a threatening manner. He then stabbed himself in the abdomen two times.

The suspect refused to surrender to the Troopers and began to run again. The suspect was eventually cornered and while taking him into custody he kicked an Oldham County Deputy Sheriff in the face.

The suspect was taken by StatCare to the University of Louisville Hospital. The suspect is being guarded while at the hospital by the Kentucky State Police with the assistance of the Oldham County Police at this time. Upon release from the hospital he will be transferred to the Oldham County Detention Center.

The Kentucky State Police had two cruisers damaged in the pursuit and the Oldham County Police had one cruiser damaged.

No police officers were hurt during this incident.

Attempted Murder of a Police Officer
Assault 3rd
2 counts of Criminal Mischief 1st

The Oldham County Police have also charged him with the following:

Robbery 1st
Assault 4th
Theft of a motor vehicle

Kentucky State Police Detective Jim Griffin is the lead investigator for the State Police and is being assisted by Troopers form the Campbellsburg Post as well as members of the Oldham County Police, Oldham County Sheriffs Department and the LaGrange Police Department.
