Calvert City Suspicious Package
(Lyon County, KY) - Kentucky State Police Post 1 of Mayfield received a call from the Air Products Chemical Plant in Calvert City of a suspicious package that was located on a chemical train car.
Following safety protocol for the Plant, the Kentucky State Police and other agencies were notified and responded to the scene.
A suspicious package wrapped in black plastic and gray tape was located near the release valves of the tanker. It was believed that the package contained parts for the tanker; however, erring on the side of caution it was treated as a possible hazardous explosive device.
Members of the Paducah City Police Department Hazardous Device Team responded and determined that the package was not a threat. It was determined that the package did in fact contain spare parts used on the tanker.
Kentucky State Police units were assisted on scene by the Calvert City Police Department, Marshall County Sheriff's Department, Calvert City Fire Department, State Fire Marshall Hazardous Material Team, Marshall County Emergency Management, and the FBI.
