Trooper Island Camp Receives $21,000.00 Donation
Date of News Release: 01/14/05
(Albany, KY) -On Thursday, January 13, 2005 managers of Citi-Financial Bank representing offices in London, Hazard, Corbin, Harlan, Somerset and Pikeville, met with Trooper Island Camp Director Trooper Craig Sutton along with Post 13 Hazard Captain Matt Sparks and Trooper Ira Napier in Hazard presenting them with a check for $21,000.00 to benefit Trooper Island Camp.
This year 2005 will mark the 40th anniversary of Trooper Island, which began in 1965 when the Kentucky State Police developed a camp on Dale Hollow Lake near the Clinton-Cumberland County line to help those who may not have otherwise had a chance to attend a summer camp. Trooper Island, has since been converted to a co-ed camp, and now serves approximately 700 boys and girls ages 10 to 12, selected from across the commonwealth by Troopers to attend a week long camp at no charge during the summer months.
In addition to the regular camping schedule Trooper Island conducts three (3) special camps for some of Kentucky's special needs youth. These camps include Camp PKU (phenylketonuria), Vision Camp (Vision Impairments) and Camp BraveHearts (Heart Complications).
Trooper Island is a non-profit charitable corporation. All construction and camping expenses are paid from tax-deductible contributions. Much industry, civic and business groups support Trooper Island along with charitable activities held by Kentucky State Police posts across the state. Some of activities in which funds have been raised for Trooper Island are golf scrambles, motorcycle runs, fishing tournaments and our yearly statewide raffle.
Anyone that would like to make a donation can send a contribution directly to Trooper Island at Post Office Box 473, Albany, Kentucky 42602 or by contacting your local Public Affairs Officer at any of the Kentucky State Police Posts across the state.
