(Albany, Ky.) -- On Wednesday, May 19th Alan Adcock, market manager of Wal-Mart markets 256 and 257, and Ken Rush, Market manager of Wal-Mart market 254 brought managers representing 21 stores from Middlesboro and Harlan to stores in between Leitchfield and Owensboro. Each year prior to the summer camping season Trooper Island host's an annual cleanup week to make sure everything is ready for campers when they begin arriving for summer camp. This year they assisted in painting, landscaping, removing mulch and spreading sand giving campers a safer playground. Along with the work stores donated food, clothing, sporting goods and many other items for campers to enjoy this summer.

Trooper Island was created in 1965 by the Kentucky State Police to help those who may not have otherwise had a chance to attend a summer camp. Located on Dale Hollow Lake near the Clinton-Cumberland County line, Trooper Island is a co-ed camp, with approximately 700 boys and girls ages 10 to 12, selected from across the commonwealth by Troopers attend a week long camp at no charge during the summer months. Each post sends 16 boys and 16 girls to camp from all across Kentucky for eight weeks from the first of June through the first week in August. Along with the regular camps this year Trooper Island will have one weekend for children which are deaf and a week for hispanic children.

Trooper Island is a non-profit charitable corporation, operating solely from donation from private individuals, Corporations, Civic and Business groups, along with charitable activities held by Kentucky State Police posts across the state. Some of the scheduled events in which funds are raised for Trooper Island are golf scrambles, motorcycle runs, fishing tournaments and a yearly statewide raffle. This year we are raffling off a 2010 Chevrolet Camero. Tickets may be purchased at any Kentucky State Police Post (Charitable Gaming License #00006333).
