Seven Die On Kentucky Roadways Last Week (Jan. 14 through Jan. 20)

(Frankfort, Ky.) -- Preliminary statistics* indicate that seven people died in six separate crashes on Kentucky's roadways from Monday, Jan. 14 through Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013.
One double-fatality, motor vehicle crash occurred in Logan County. One single-fatality, motor vehicle crash occurred in each of the following counties: Christian, Clark, Hopkins, Madison and Scott.
The victims in Christian, Clark, Logan and Scott counties were not wearing seat belts. The use of alcohol was involved in the Madison County and Scott County crashes.
Through Jan. 20, preliminary statistics* indicate that 24 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2013. This is 17 less than reported for this time period in 2012. Of the 18 motor vehicle fatalities, nine victims were not wearing seat belts. One of the two motorcycle fatalities was not wearing a helmet. Three pedestrians have been killed. One fatality involving an animal drawn vehicle has been reported. A total of seven fatalities have resulted from crashes involving the suspected use of alcohol.
