Owen County Man Killed in Crash

(Monterey, KY) -– Troopers from KSP Post 5 responded to a fatal collision at 6:59 this morning (05/16/2012) in Owen County. The collision occurred several hours earlier but was not called in until another driver saw the vehicle. Investigation by Troopers showed that the vehicle, driven by 55 year old Lamonte Richardson of Owenton, was traveling east on Frank Clark Road when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. (Prestonsburg, Ky.) -- On Tuesday May 15, 2012 Post 9 Pikeville received a call of a two vehicle accident on Ky 114 in the Prestonsburg community of Floyd County. KSP units arrived on scene and preliminary information indicates that James Mace was traveling East on Ky 114 in a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu when his vehicle crossed the centerline. (Frankfort, KY.) – KSP is offering a free motorcycle safety training seminar on Thursday, May 17, 2012 from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. at KSP Headquarters, located at 919 Versailles Road in Frankfort, Kentucky.

The seminar will be taught by a Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) RiderCoach who will utilize MSF curriculum for this training seminar. Topics will include proper gear, tips for new and seasoned riders and sharing the road with motorists. Officer Jason Cammack, the first CVE Officer killed in the line of duty, died Easter Sunday, April 23, 2000. Officer Cammack was on routine patrol on I-64 eastbound near the Midway exit in Woodford County when he crossed the median and accelerated into the westbound lane in an apparent attempt to stop a speeding vehicle. Kentucky State Police Taking Part in Highway Safety Mobilizations

(Hickory, KY) – For the next three weeks, Kentucky State Police will be taking part in two highway safety initiatives in an effort to reduce fatal and serious injury collisions on Kentucky Highways. Beginning today, Troopers in the Post One district will be taking part in the TACT enforcement mobilization. TACT stands for Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks. This highway safety initiative focuses on hazardous moving violations by commercial motor vehicles or other vehicles in close proximity to commercial motor vehicles. The enforcement areas of Interstate 24 and the Julian Carroll Parkway have been selected based upon crash data along those roadways. Multi-State effort focuses on impaired driving and drug interdiction on Interstate 70 / 75

(Frankfort, KY.) – The Kentucky State Police joined forces with Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and the Indiana State Police on Interstate 70 and 75 on May 3– 5, in an ongoing effort to combat drug trafficking and impaired driving.

This multi-agency enforcement effort is part of the 6 State Trooper Project, which is aimed at providing combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway safety, criminal patrol and intelligence sharing.

(ELKFORK, KY) - On Monday, May 7th, 2012, Kentucky State Police in Morehead received a call from Ronald Trimble on Wheeler Road in Morgan County, in reference to a domestic disturbance between himself and his son, Gregory Trimble. Ronald Trimble also advised that Gregory Trimble had stabbed his dog with a knife. Trooper Tony Russell, Trooper Mike McPherson, and Trooper Britt Rollins responded to the scene. (Hickory, Ky.) -- Mr. James Sasse was traveling south on KY 121 South, when he attempted to overtake a vehicle driven by Danny Pittman. Mr. Sasse observed an oncoming vehicle driven by Gerald Cowley, and tried to steer his vehicle back into the southbound lane when he struck Mr. Pittman's vehicle in the rear. Mr. Sasse lost control of his vehicle and left the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. (Sparta, KY) -- Troopers responding to a complaint of a suspicious smell discovered a meth lab at the Speedway Inn in Gallatin County. Gallatin County dispatchers received the call at approximately 9:00 a.m. on Friday (5/4) and contacted KSP for assistance. Troopers and deputies from the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office went to the Speedway Inn and discovered two active meth labs in a hotel room. Several ingredients used in making methamphetamine were in the room as well. The inn was temporarily evacuated while the labs were disposed of by Troopers. No children were present. Troopers served a search warrant Saturday (4/28) at 114 South Main Street in Glencoe at approximately 1:30 a.m. During a search of the residence, Troopers discovered the meth lab in the home. Troopers also found two grams of finished methamphetamine as well as several ingredients used in manufacturing methamphetamine. Structure Fire Claims the Life in Paintsville, Ky

(Paintsville, Ky.) - On Sunday, April 29th, 2012, at 0020 hours, Paintsville 911 received a call of a structure fire at 1120 Short Street in Paintsville in Johnson County. Shortly after firefighters arrived on scene and initiated interior attack, the body of 46-year-old John W. Meade was located inside of the residence. The Kentucky State Police was then notified to respond to the scene in order to assist the firefighters. (Morehead, KY) -- On Friday, April 27, 2012 at 6:39 a.m., Kentucky State Police in Morehead received several reports of an abandoned John Deere Gator in the middle of the roadway on Big Perry Road in Morehead. Trooper Joshua Preece arrived on scene and had the John Deere Gator towed. While on scene Trooper Preece noticed a truck and trailer with a lawn mower on the trailer across from Big Perry on US60, after further investigation the owner of the vehicle and equipment was contacted. The owner advised that his vehicle and equipment had apparently been stolen. While Trooper Preece was on scene waiting for the owner to arrive, he observed a truck pulling a trailer with a lawn mower on the trailer that matched the description given by the owner of his other stolen vehicle and equipment. (Frankfort, KY.) – Today the Kentucky State Police selected the winning student artist for the National 'Missing Children's Day' poster contest, co-sponsored by the Department of Justice (DOJ) in Washington, D.C. The contest is an annual event that encourages fifth grade students from across the country to design posters depicting the importance of bringing missing children home.

Eleven year old Olivia Ossege of St. Thomas School won the state competition and her poster was selected as the Kentucky entry in the national competition. (Mayfield, Ky.) - Donna Seay was northbound on Jenkins Road. Jason Mullinix was southbound on Jenkins Road. Mr. Mullinix's vehicle and Ms. Seay's vehicle met on a hill crest and struck head on. Mr. Mullinix's vehicle left the roadway and overturned before coming to final rest. The passenger (Chris Mullinix) of Mr. Mullinix's vehicle was ejected from the vehicle and the driver was trapped in the vehicle. Jason Mullinix was extricated by his brother, Chris Mullinix. Graduates were honored at a ceremony and dinner held at Our Best restaurant in Henry County on Monday, April 23. The twelve week program consisted of classes covering a wide variety of KSP operations such as crime-scene investigation, accident reconstruction, and traffic stops. Class members were also able to accompany Troopers on ride-alongs which gave them a better understanding of the challenges faced by law enforcement officers on a daily basis. While the program is not intended to turn citizens into law enforcement officers, it provides participants the opportunity to become better informed members of their communities and gives them a more complete view of the role of the State Police. Zack Morris responded to a call of a possible DUI on I-71 North in Henry County at approximately 11:00 p.m. After observing the vehicle, Tpr. Morris activated the lights and siren on his cruiser in order to get the vehicle to stop. The driver of the vehicle, Marcus Gritton (33 years old of Louisville, KY), continued driving. Seven of the fatalities involved motor vehicles and six victims were not wearing seat belts. Single-fatality crashes occurred in Barren, Christian, Jefferson (2), Lincoln, McCracken and Meade counties. (Henderson, KY) -- The Kentucky State Police and the Union County Sheriff's Department responded to a disturbance at the Huck's gas station in Sturgis KY. Prior to the arrival of responding units, Rudy Willett II threw a clay flower pot through the front glass door of the gas station and then fled the scene in his vehicle. A search for Willett ended a couple of hours later when he was located riding in a vehicle that had been stopped by the State Police. Cates was operating a 1993 Chevy S10 and pulled up to the checkpoint.
