Collision in Bath County Leaves One Dead and One Critically Injured

(Bath County, KY) - Officer Marty Combs with the Kentucky State Police/Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division is investigating a collision that resulted in the death of Michael A. Beatty, age 33 of Lexington, KY. Beatty was the operator of a 2001 Mitsubishi that, preliminary reports indicate, was rear-ended by a 2016 Freightliner operated by Stevie D. Davis, age 56 of Maryville, TN. Both vehicles were traveling West on Interstate 64 in Bath County, when the collision occurred. Beatty's passenger, Michael B. Taylor, age 31 of Lexington, KY, was airlifted to the University of Kentucky. He is reported to be in critical but stable condition. The driver of the tractor trailer was transported to St. Claire Regional Medical Center in Morehead, KY, where he was being treated for non-life threatening injuries. Beatty was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bath County Coroner.

The collision is still under investigation by Officer Combs, and he was assisted at the scene by KSP Officers Hudson, Foley and Jones and Troopers Gardner and Cottrell. The Bath County Fire Department and EMS, as well as members of the Kentucky Transportation Department, assisted.
