Motorist Assist Leads to Felony Drug Arrest

Franklin, KY (October 14, 2016) Kentucky State Police Sgt. Brandon Ford stopped to assist Dwayne Edwards (44) of Nashville, TN who was walking along Interstate 65 near Franklin at approximately 9:05 a.m. today.

While Sgt. Ford was attempting to render aid, Mr. Edwards became combative towards officers. Officers were attempting to effect an arrest, when Mr. Edwards entered the travel portion of Interstate 65 causing officers to shut down the Interstate for a brief period of time for the safety of Mr. Edwards and Officers. Mr. Edwards was taken into custody and transported to the Franklin Medical Center. Mr. Edwards was under the influence of drugs during the time officers were attempting to render aid.

During the investigation, officers located a large amount of Cocaine and money. Mr. Edwards was charged with the following:

  • Menacing
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Criminal Mischief 3rd
  • Public Intoxication
  • Trafficking in Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Cocaine)
