Semi-Truck Driver Arrested for DUI and Trafficking in Meth on I75 in Madison County

(Morehead, KY) -- An officer with the Kentucky State Police observed a tractor trailer traveling at a high rate of speed on I75 north bound around the 80 mile marker on May 27, 2015. Once contact was made, the officer observed the driver's nervous behavior and bloodshot eyes. At this point, field sobriety tests were conducted. The driver was placed under arrest at this point. Further investigation revealed that the driver had taken methamphetamines, and had two or more grams of methamphetamines and materials used for sales in the vehicle. The driver, Burt A. Bandstra of Chattanooga, TN, was taken to Baptist Health Richmond for a blood test. He was then taken to the Madison County Detention Center where he was lodged on numerous charges.
The driver was charged with the following:
- Speeding 20 mph over the limit
- Improper use of the left lane – overtaking vehicle
- Operating motor vehicle under the influence
- Trafficking in control substance 1st degree, 1st offense, Methamphetamines
