Injury Accident Closes Interstate After Commercial Vehicle Catches Fire

(Glendale, KY) - The Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Region 2 investigated a two vehicle collision that occurred today at 4:15 p.m. EDT on Interstate 65, 1 mile South of Glendale. 37-year-old Smajo Jusufovic of Bowling Green, KY was operating a 2007 Freightliner traveling northbound on Interstate 65. For an unknown reason Jusufovic struck the rear of a trailer being operated by 61-year-old Joseph Howard of Carrollton, IL. Jusufovic's vehicle then burst into flames destroying the truck and trailer. The Interstate was shut down for several hours while crews were cleaning up the scene.
Jusufovic was wearing his seat belt and was transported to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Howard and a passenger 58-year-old Paul Dickerson of Fairview Heights, IL were both wearing their seat belts and were not injured.
Senior Officer Mike Moritz is investigating and was assisted at the scene by Senior Officer Brian Wood, the Hardin County EMS, Sonora and Glendale Fire Departments.
