KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Struck in Work Zone

(Elizabethtown, KY)- The Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Region 2 investigated a 2 vehicle accident involving a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer conducting traffic safety protection inside a highway work zone. On Wednesday October 21, 2015 at 4:55 a.m. EDT at the 98 mile marker on Interstate 65, Officer Joseph Overton was sitting in his patrol car on the interstate offering traffic safety for the construction crew. 46-year-old Tonia Young of Nashville, TN, was operating a 2015 Freightliner traveling south on I-65, when she fell asleep crossing into the work zone striking Overton in the rear of his patrol car. Young traveled south on the interstate and was stopped by members of the construction crew.
Overton and Young were not injured in the accident and were wearing their seatbelts.
