Firery Crash Closes I-65 North

(Brownsville, Ky.) - On May 9, 2014 at approximately 0430 hrs CST, Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green received a call of an injury accident near the 43 mile point, I-65 Northbound inside Edmonson county. CVE officers from Post 3 responded to the scene and found 2 loaded commercial vehicles had collided. According to preliminary reports a tractor and trailer hauling paint rear ended another tractor and trailer loaded with tires. The accident resulted in the driver of unit#1 being trapped, however he was freed by non mechanical means. Both tractor and trailers caught fire, closing the roadway for several hours. A temporary detour has been established, routing northbound vehicles onto the Louie B. Nunn Cumberland Parkway to US-31 and re-entering I-65 near Cave City. The accident is currently under investigation by Sr. Officer C. Duke and Offc. J. Overton. Kentucky State Police were assisted by Mammoth Cave National Park Fire Service, Edmonson County Fire EMS, Barren Fire EMS, and KY Dept of Emergency Protection
