Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Investigates Semi Collision

(Morehead, KY) -- On December 30, 2013, the Kentucky State Police Post in Richmond, KY received a call of an injury accident involving a semi tractor trailer. Emergency responders were dispatched to KY 627, and found that a tractor trailer carrying 43,000 lbs of hardwood flooring had overturned on the right shoulder of the road. The driver stated that he swerved to avoid hitting a deer, went into a culvert, overcorrected and overturned. The semi skid 427 ft, before coming to a stop. No other vehicles were involved in the collision. The driver of the semi was still in the cab of the truck, and was removed and transported to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, KY to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. The driver, who has been identified as Donavan A. Muth of Hayesville, NC, had picked up the load in Burnside, KY, and was transporting it to Kenilworth, NJ. The tractor trailer is owned and operated by Andrew M. Hopkins Trucking out of Parkersburg, WV. The collision is still under investigation by Officer Dennis Johnson of the Kentucky State Police/Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division. Assisting at the scene was the Madison County Fire Department, Madison County EMS and the Madison County Sheriff's Office.
