Taser Used on Burglary Suspect

(Beattyville, KY) -- On September 4, 2012 around 11:00 pm, Beattyville, KY Police Department received a call of a burglary in progress at the Rite Aid Pharmacy in Beattyville. Officer Dennis Johnson with the Kentucky State Police / Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division and Beattyville PD units arrived on scene and encountered a male subject who has been identified as Patrick W. Gooch, 31, of Eubank, KY. Mr. Gooch exited the store through a back door and went back into the store upon contact with law enforcement officers. He then climbed onto the roof of the store and refused to come down. Officers on scene were able to persuade him to come out of the store to turn himself in. When officers approached the suspect, he became non-compliant and refused to follow verbal commands. Officer Johnson deployed his agency issued Taser and the suspect became compliant without further incident. The suspect was arrested and has been charged with resisting arrest, public intoxication, criminal mischief and burglary. He was lodged in the Three Forks Regional Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police Post 7.
