Tractor Trailer Fire in Whitley County

Date of News Release: 12/05/2012

(Williamsburg, KY) -- On Wednesday December 5th 2012 around 6:00 P.M. Officer Keegan Bray with the Kentucky State Police-Vehicle Enforcement responded to a report of a tractor trailer fire located on I-75 northbound near the 13 mile marker in Williamsburg Kentucky.

Upon arrival officer Bray determined that 60 year old Jerry W. Boxell of Portland Indiana was operating a 2007 international tractor trailer north on I-75 when he discovered the rear of his truck was on fire.

Boxell was able to unhook from his trailer and pull away prior to any damages being done to the cargo. Both northbound lane of travel was shut down for 30 minutes while the fire department and clean up crews worked to extinguish the fire and clear the roadway.

Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the incident and officers believe a leaking wheel seal and hot brakes are a direct cause of the fire.

Assisting on scene: Sgt Greg Reams, KSP-Troopers Les Moses, Tony Dingess, Whitley County Sheriff's Office and the Gold Bug Fire Department.
