Commercial Vehicle Accident Leads to Murder Charge

(Corbin, KY) -- On Saturday July 7th 2012 around 4 A.M. officer Mike Hamblin and Sgt. Greg Reams with the Kentucky State Police-Vehicle Enforcement responded to a fatal accident located on I-75 near the 30 mile marker in Laurel Co Kentucky.
Upon arrival officers learned 49 year old Howard M. White of Bagdad, Kentucky was operating a 2000 white Ford roll back wrecker when he had stopped to check the securement of his load. While outside the vehicle, a 2008 white Ford box truck being operated by 24 yr old Austin T. Meredith of Sevierville Tennessee crossed the fog line striking White and the parked wrecker causing fatal injuries.
Further investigation found Meredith was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. Meredith was arrested and charged with: Murder, D.U.I., Wanton Endangerment and several other commercial vehicle violations.
Two other passengers were in the parked wrecker at the time of collision but were not injured. Alcohol is a direct factor in the collision and Meredith was lodged in the Laurel Co Detention Center.
