Fatal Crash I-75 in Rockcastle County

Date of News Release: 04/01/2012

(Mount Vernon, KY) -- On Sunday April 1st 2012 around 4 P.M. Sgt. Greg Reams and Ofc. Randy Rader with the Kentucky State Police-Vehicle Enforcement responded to a multi vehicle fatal crash located on I-75 northbound near the 61 mile marker in Rockcastle County.

Upon arrival Sgt. Reams determined that 3 tractor trailers and 4 passenger cars all collided resulting in 1 person dead and 3 others being air lifted to the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Roberta Butler 76 yrs, Mitch Butler 75 yrs both of Hamilton Ohio, along with 55 yr old Teresa Holbrook, Beaver Creek Ohio, was air lifted from the scene and taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center with non life threatening injuries.

Keith E. Holbrook 55 yr old of Beaver Creek Ohio was pronounced dead on scene by the Rockcastle Co Coroner office.

Heavy rain and wet roads are contributing factors in the collision. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected. I-75 was closed for several hours while reconstructionist worked to process the scene.

Assisting on scene: Kentucky State Police, Rockcastle Co EMS, Mt. Vernon Fire Department, Rockcastle Co Emergency Management, Air Methods Air Ambulance Kentucky State Highway Department. Sgt. Greg Reams continues the investigation.
