Date of News Release: 06/06/2012
Louisville, KY (June 6, 2012) -- The Kentucky State Police along with other state and national agencies will participate in the 25th annual Roadcheck. The 72 hour road check which runs from June 5 to June 7 is sponsored and supported by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration(FMCSA). During the road check local, state, and federal certified officers and inspectors will place above normal emphasis on commercial motor vehicle safety. Officers will be highly visible on the interstates and highways in the Commonwealth watching for driver and vehicle violations that pose a safety concern to the public.
Officers and inspectors will place special emphasis on vehicle violations such as, brake systems, trailer connection, wheels, and tires. They will also be focusing on all driver violations such as, speeding, seat belt use, drug and alcohol use, and drivers hours of service.
This annual event has always brought great success. During the 2011 Roadcheck nationwide 66,853 inspections were conducted which resulted in 15 lives being saved and 282 injuries being avoided. The Kentucky State Police ask that you do your part in helping keep the road safe by calling in violations that you observe on the interstates and highways.
