Injury collision on US 23 in Floyd County

Date of News Release: 12/19/2011

(IVEL, KY) -- On Monday December 19, 2011 Post 09 Pikeville received a 911 call of a collision involving a single commercial vehicle on US 23 in the Ivel community of Floyd County.

Preliminary investigation reveals that Sean Vanhoose, 27 years of age, was operating a 1999 white Peterbilt single unit tanker northbound on US 23 when he allegedly fell asleep. The vehicle then overturned in the roadway. The unit came to final rest in the median blocking northbound lanes. The tanker leaked liquid nitrogen, and both northbound and southbound US 23 was shut down for a short amount of time.

Vanhoose was transported to Highlands Regional Medical Center for his injuries. No one was injured due to the liquid nitrogen leak.

Trooper John Dixon, Officer Gary Mullins and Officer Marty Combs were assisted on scene by Allen Fire Department.

The collision remains under investigation by Trooper John Dixon.
