Taser Deployed At Vehicle Accident Scene

(London, KY) -- On Tuesday December 27th 2011 around 8PM Officer Mike Hamblin with the Kentucky State Police-Vehicle Enforcement responded to a single vehicle accident located four miles east of London on the Hal Rogers Parkway.

Upon arrival, Hamblin learned that the operator, 41 yr old John E. Nolan of Richmond, was still seat belted in the vehicle when officers arrived on scene. While attempting to assist Nolan out of the vehicle, Hamblin detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Nolan's person.

When asked to perform sobriety test, Nolan spit at and grabbed officer Hamblin where a brief struggle took place. Hamblin deployed (2) cycles from his issued Taser at which time Nolan became compliant with officer commands.

Nolan was charged with: Possession of Open Alcoholic Beverage Container, Menacing, resisting arrest, failure to produce insurance card, driving on DUI suspended license, DUI 4th offense and was served with 2 outstand bench warrants.

Assisting at the scene: Kentucky State Police Trooper Mike King and The Laurel Co Fire Department. Hamblin continues the investigation.
