Fatal Collision on I-75-Rockcastle in Rockcastle County

(Mount Vernon, KY) -- On Friday December 23rd 2011 around 5AM Sgt. Greg Reams and Ofc. Mike Hamblin of the Kentucky State Police-Vehicle Enforcement responded to a multiple vehicle crash on I-75 near the 57 mile marker in Rockcastle Co Kentucky.

During the investigation, officers learned that 30 yr old Perry Eric Carlton of London, was involved in a single vehicle crash. He was operating a red 2006 Pontiac when he lost control and wrecked into the cable barrier on I-75. Carlton then exited his vehicle and was struck by a 2000 Peterbuilt semi tractor trailer in the fast lane of travel.

While attempting to avoid the pedestrian, the operated of the tractor trailer 59yr old Williams C Hackler of Williamsburg struck two other vehicles, a White 1999 Acura operated by a 22 yr old Nicholas G. Nowicki of Grand Rapids Michigan and a Blue 2008 4 door Subaru operated by Casey Thomas of Lexington Kentucky.

Perry Eric Carlton was pronounced dead on the scene by Rockcastle Co coroner. Alcohol is a factor in the pedestrian strike, and the operator of the tractor trailer was cited for other commercial vehicle violations.

Assisting on scene: Kentucky State Police-Vehicle Enforcement, Rockcastle Co Coroner Office, Rockcastle Co EMS, Mount Vernon Police, Rockcastle Co. Sheriff's Office. Sgt Greg Reams Continues the investigation.
