Vehicle Pursuit and Arrest in Pulaski County

(Somerset, KY) -- On Thursday December 22nd, 2011 around 1 PM Ofc. Travis Rogers with Kentucky State Police-Vehicle Enforcement conducted a traffic stop on a violator for speeding on KY 80 in Pulaski County.

After stopping the vehicle, Officer Rogers learned that the operator 28 yr old Richard Burton, of Eubank did not have a driver license in his possession. When Officer Rogers was returning to his cruiser to radio dispatch, the offender took off driving a 2009 Nissan Sentra at a high rate of speed and in a reckless manner. Ofc. Rogers chased Burton nearly 15 miles down KY80, onto Sandy Gap Road, then back onto KY 80.

The pursuit came to an end with the assistance of Pulaski Co Sheriff's Department when deputies shut down traffic and deployed spikes strips to deflate the tires. Burton spotted the spikes and pulled over just prior to the officers location were he was taken into custody with out further incident.

Burton was charged speeding, reckless driving, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st and (3) counts of Wanton Endangerment.

Assisting on Scene: Vehicle Enforcement Ofc. Duffy Sutton, Pulaski County Sheriff's Department. Ofc. Travis Rogers continues the investigation.
