Serious Injury Collision on KY 92

(Williamsburg, Ky.) -- On Wednesday September 14th 2011 around 8:30 AM Officer Steven Douglas of The Kentucky State Police-Vehicle Enforcement responded to a serious injury accident that closed a section of KY92 for over 4hrs in Williamsburg Kentucky.
Upon arrival and thru investigation, Douglas determined that 18 yr old Shawna Barnett of Sterns KY, was east bound on KY92 operating a 2006 Ford Focus when she crossed the center line and struck a 2005 Freightliner commercial vehicle head-on. The Freightliner was being operated by 35 yr old Merle G Watkins of London and belonged to Mrs. Grissom Salads of Nashville Tn.
Ms. Barnett had to be extricated from the vehicle and was air lifted from the scene to Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport Tn. Mr. Watkins was transported to The Baptist Regional Medical Center were he was treated and released.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected, and at last report Ms. Barnett was listed in Critical condition. Both Ms. Barnett and Mr. Watkins were wearing there seat belts at the time of collision.
Assisting at the scene: Williamsburg Police officers Bobby Freeman, Ofc Jim Pool. Whitley Co Sheriff Deputy Todd Shelley, Williamsburg Fire Department, Whitley Co EMS, Whitley Co Emergency Management. Officer Steven Douglas continues the investigation.
