Collision involving a Commercial Vehicle

Date of News Release: 02/07/2011

Commercial Vehicle in ditch(Scott County, Ky.) -- On February 7, 2011 Officers with the Kentucky State Police Division of Commercial Vehicle Enforcement responded to assist the Scott County Sheriff's Department with a collision. At approximately 3:08 pm the driver of a full sized truck tractor and semi trailer ran off the road while westbound on Paris Pike approximately two miles east of Georgetown. The operator of the vehicle, later identified as Michael McAllister of Iowa, attempted to drive the truck back onto the roadway but the lack of shoulders and the steep incline of the ditch kept him from doing so. The truck continued until it stuck a wooden fence and a utility pole then finally came to rest after striking a tree head-on.

The driver claimed to have no injuries at the time of the collision and no other vehicles were involved.

The commercial vehicle was being improperly driven on a road not built for full sized trucks and the driver was issued a citation for the following charges:

  • Overwidth Tractor Trailer
  • Overlength Tractor Trailer
  • No valid proof of insurance.

Traffic impact is significant as Paris Pike remains closed east of Georgetown and it is not expected to reopen until approximately 530pm.
