Kentucky State Police Arrest Versailles Man

Date of News Release: 06/21/2011

(Louisville, Ky.) -- A Versailles resident, Squire Gibson Jr, 34, was arrested by Kentucky State Police Officer John Scott during a commercial vehicle blitz in Washington County last Thursday.

At approximately 8:20 am, Ofc. Scott stopped Gibson on KY555 and conducted a walk around inspection of his commercial vehicle. Gibson was operating a 1999 Peterbilt and a 1983 Fruehauf trailer. Due to numerous safety violations, the trailer was placed out of service. Gibson was also placed out of service for not having corrective lenses in his possession, as required by his driver's license. Additionally, Ofc. Scott determined that Gibson was illegally hauling "for-hire" on a farm license plate. He was delivering a load of wet feed from Versailles to Coleman Crest Dairy. The truck was parked and Gibson wasn't allowed to operate the vehicle until the trailer violations were corrected and someone brought Gibson his glasses.

A short while later, just a few miles south of where the truck was parked, Ofc. Scott once again observed Gibson operating the vehicle. Upon a second inspection, Ofc. Scott discovered that none of the violations had been corrected and Gibson did not have his glasses. At this time, Gibson was arrested for violating two federal out of service orders and was lodged in the Marion County Detention Center. The vehicle was impounded and towed by Ellis Wrecker Service of Bardstown. It will be held in impound until all equipment violations are corrected and the proper license plate and operating authorities are obtained to haul for hire.
