Traffic Collision in Rockcastle County

(London, Ky.) -- On Tuesday August 17, 2010 at 3:42 AM the Kentucky State Police Post 11, London received a report of a commercial vehicle traffic crash with injury at the 58 mile marker on I-75 in Rockcastle County.

Upon arrival KSP - CVE Officer Mike Hamblin determined that a Black, 2006, Peterbilt, Tractor-trailer, operated by Michael E. Hedges, Jr., 37, of Knoxville, TN, was northbound on I-75 when the operator stated he began to feel ill. The tractor/trailer entered the median where the operator overcorrected in an attempt to re-enter the roadway and overturned.

A passenger, Nina Hedges, 28, of Knoxville, TN was flown from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington for treatment of her injuries.

I -75 northbound was closed for approximately 5 hours due to the crash.

NO alcohol and/or drug usage suspected.

Officer Hamblin is in charge of the crash investigation and was assisted by officers from the KSP, the Mount Vernon Fire Department, the Rockcastle County EMS and the Kentucky Department of Transportation.
