Drug Arrests in Laurel County

(London, Ky.) - On Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 8:44 AM Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Travis Rogers, while on routine patrol, observed a speeding vehicle on KY 80 west of London.

Officer Rogers initiated his emergency equipment in an attempt to stop the vehicle, a 1994 black Pontiac Sunbird, for the speeding violation and the vehicle's driver, later identified as Bryon S. Baker, 27, of London, accelerated the vehicle and refused to stop.

Mr. Baker traveled from KY 80 onto Industrial Boulevard and then onto Vaughn Ridge Road before pulling into a residential driveway where he exited the vehicle and fled on foot.

Officer Rogers apprehended the vehicle's passenger, Merinda K. Robinson, 29, of London, as she also fled on foot.

KSP K-9 Trooper Jason McCowan responded to the scene with his dog and located Mr. Baker hiding in a wooden area.

During the investigation into the reason the subjects fled, Officer Rogers discovered a Methamphetamine lab inside the vehicle.

Officer Rogers arrested and charged Mr. Baker with Speeding, No Registration Plates, No Insurance, Fleeing or evading police 1ST degree (motor vehicle), Fleeing or evading police 1ST degree (on foot), Manufacturing Methamphetamine 1ST Offense and Driving on a DUI suspended license.

Officer Rogers also arrested and charged Ms. Robinson with Fleeing or evading police 1ST degree (on foot), Giving officer false name or address, Possession of a controlled substance 1ST degree 2ND offense, Drug paraphernalia law, buy, possess 2ND offense and Manufacturing Methamphetamine 1St Offense.

Both were lodged in the Laurel County Detention Center.

Officer Rogers is in charge of the investigation and was assisted by officers from the Kentucky State Police and the Laurel County Sheriff's Office.
