Date of News Release: 02/11/2009

(London, KY) - On Wednesday, February 11, 2009 the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 received a request, from the Whitley County 911 Center, for a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer in reference to a traffic crash on I-75 at the 17 mile marker.

Upon arrival CVE Officer Mike McQueen determined that a 2005 Freightliner tractor/trailer, driven by Ottis C. Donaldson, 62, of Warsaw Indiana, was southbound on I-75 when it caught fire.

Donaldson pulled to the side of the roadway and attempted, unsuccessfully, to put out the fire.

The truck was transporting scrap aluminum, which also caught fire.

The truck/trailer and load are a total loss.

The southbound lanes of I-75 are closed due to the fire and will remain closed until the scene is cleaned-up (approximately 2.5 to 3 hours.)
