State Police Request Help Resolving Deputy Sheriff Carnie Hopkins's Murder
On Sunday September 9, 1984 at approximately 11:20 pm Livingston County Deputy Sheriff Carnie Hopkins notified his dispatch he would be checking on a hitchhiker on US 60 approximately 3 miles East of Smithland, Kentucky. The intersection where this occurred is also known as "The Monument." A short time later Deputy Hopkins was found murdered, at this location. Deputy Hopkins had obviously been in a struggle with his assailant(s) and died as a result of a gunshot wound. No arrests have been made in this case, and state police are seeking assistance from the public.
