On December 17, 1979 Donnie R Gibson was traveling east on the Daniel Boone Parkway in Perry County, when the vehicle he was driving was shot three (3) times by a person using a shotgun. The vehicle was discovered stopped in the eastbound lane of the roadway.

Donnie R Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Perry County Corner. One individual was charged in this case, however the charges were dismissed due to a lack of evidence. It is believed a connection may exist between this case and the Burton Jones Murder in May 1979. It is also believed that this murder has ties to a coal strike, which took place in 1979.

To date the perpetrator(s) have not been identified, and brought to trial.
