Kentucky State Police Academy
Successful completion of the selection process will afford you the opportunity to enter the 23-week training academy located at the Kentucky State Police Headquarters in Frankfort. The Academy operates in a para-military atmosphere. All Trooper Cadets are salaried, and covered by state medical insurance begin the first day of the academy. All Trooper Cadets are required to live at the training facility throughout the work week with conditional liberty granted on weekends.
The KSP Academy involves training in many areas which include Criminal Investigation, Evidence Collection, Advanced Collision Investigation, Criminal and Traffic Law, Arrest procedures, Criminal Patrol, Advanced Driver Training, Firearms Training, Defensive Tactics, and intensive Physical Training. Academic testing will take place each Friday prior to leaving for liberty.
The State Trooper job description states that applicants must display excellent physical fitness and be able to participate in strenuous training while in the academy. The Physical Training includes running, calestinics, weight lifting, defensive tactics and marching on a daily basis. A poorly conditioned Trooper is ill prepared to perform their duties at a superior level.
