Kentucky State Police Mourns the Loss of a Second Trooper in One Week

(Pikeville, Ky.)- On Monday, December 25, 2006 at 1:55 pm (EST), Kentucky State Police Detective Stewart "Joey" Howard was found unresponsive at his home in the community of Regina in Pike County. Detective Howard, 45 years of age, was pronounced dead at his home by Pike County Coroner Russell Roberts.
"The Kentucky State Police mourns the loss of one of its family members" said KSP Commissioner Jack Adams. "Detective Howard was a tremendous asset to Post 9 in Pikeville. Our sympathy goes out to Detective Howard's family and I ask that you also keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. "
Detective Howard was a sixteen year veteran of the agency. He served his entire KSP career at the Pikeville Post.
The investigation into Detective Howard's death is continuing by the Kentucky State Police. No foul play is suspected.
