Six Die On Kentucky Roadways Last Week (March 13 through March 19)
Date of News Release: 03/20/2006
(FRANKFORT, Ky.) - Preliminary statistics* indicate that six people died in six separate crashes on Kentucky's roadways from Monday, March 13 through Sunday, March 19.
Of the six fatal crashes, preliminary data* indicates alcohol was a suspected factor in one of the crashes and all six of the victims were not wearing seat belts.
Jefferson County reported two single fatality crashes. Single fatality crashes also occurred in Daviess, Meade, Perry and Todd counties.
Through March 19, 2006, a total of 129* people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways. This is 43 fewer deaths than reported for this time period in 2005. Sixty-six of these 129 fatalities were not wearing seat belts.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
*These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
