Fourteen Die On Kentucky Roadways Last Week (Dec. 5 through Dec. 11)
Date of News Release: 12/12/2005
(FRANKFORT, Ky.) - Preliminary statistics* indicate that 14 people died in 13 separate crashes on Kentucky's roadways from Monday, Dec. 5 through Sunday, Dec. 11.
Of the 13 fatal crashes, preliminary data* indicates alcohol was a suspected factor in one of the crashes and ten (10) of the victims were not wearing seat belts. One of the victims was a pedestrian and the seat belt status of one of the victims is unknown at this time.
Clay County reported one double fatality crash. Madison and Warren counties reported two single fatality crashes each. Single fatality crashes also occurred in Bullitt, Casey, Floyd, Fulton, Grant, Graves, Jefferson and Lawrence counties.
Through December 11, 2005, a total of 916* people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways. This is nine (9) less than reported through this same date in 2004. Five hundred twenty (520) of these 916 fatalities were not wearing seat belts.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
*These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
