Twenty-Four Die On Kentucky Roadways Last Week
(Oct. 3 through Oct. 9)
Date of Release: 10/10/05
(FRANKFORT, Ky.) - Preliminary statistics* indicate that 24 people died in 19 separate crashes on Kentucky's roadways from Monday, Oct. 3 through Sunday, Oct. 9.
Of the 19 fatal crashes, preliminary data* indicates alcohol was a suspected factor in one of the crashes and 12 of the victims were not wearing seat belts. The seatbelt status of four of the fatalities is not known at this time.
Through Oct. 9, 2005, a total of 738* people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways. This is one more than reported for this time period in 2004. Four hundred and seventeen of these 738 fatalities were not wearing seat belts.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
*These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
