Governor's Highway Safety Program Recognizes Top
Impaired Driving Enforcement Officers and Agencies

(FRANKFORT, KY) - Law enforcement officers and agencies from across the state were recognized for outstanding achievement at the 2002 Governor's Impaired Driving Enforcement Awards ceremony held today at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Lexington.

Kentucky State Police Commissioner Patrick N. Simpson and Terrance Parker, Program Manager for Region IV of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, presented awards to 193 officers and 16 law enforcement agencies for their extraordinary efforts in reducing impaired driving. The award recipients are collectively responsible for approximately 35,825 impaired driving arrests during the past year.

"The commitment and dedication of these individuals and agencies is admirable," said KSP Commissioner Simpson. "Their efforts have a direct impact on reducing alcohol-related collisions and fatalities in Kentucky. They make a real contribution to keeping roadways safer throughout the state."

Motorists can help save lives by reporting erratic drivers to the KSP hotline at 1-800-222-5555 (in the state of Kentucky only, does not work out of state). Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number, if possible.
